UPDATE APRIL 24, 2025

Hello All,

I am eager to share that I have been in touch with Jeff Canon from Evergreen Baptist in Erwin. He will be handling this portion of the construction efforts for Evergreen. They have shifted gears and are putting more efforts into total rebuilds instead of remodeling damaged homes. This seems to be more economical and timely than remodeling. They have had several groups of volunteers helping build several homes already and have had some other families move into their new homes.

Below are photos of the kit homes they are building and a picture of a deck the volunteers built for Shawn Dow and his family. (The Dows were the family whose home we renovated following the flood last fall). The church's efforts have extended outside of Bumpus Cove and, to my understanding, they have helped relocate some of the Bumpus Cove families who lost their homes and land to the flood to newly purchased land. Some of the following projects are outside of Bumpus Cove but are still assisting the flood victims in the Erwin area.
  • Right now they have homes in all stages of construction and his greatest need will be for drywall installers in about 2 weeks for 2 different homes. How many volunteers could help with drywall on April 21st through April 26th? Please email me with which dates you would be able to assist. **** This will be a 2 story build and will require drywall to be carried upstairs. ****
  • Mr. Canon also said he needs some plumbers to do an entire rough in for one of their homes. I didn't commit any plumbers until I checked with our group to see who was willing to take on such a large task.  Please email me if you would be able to assist with roughing in a home what your availability would be. (The specs provided by Jeff: 1200 SF home on 800 SF footprint, 2 story with kitchen, 1 bath, laundry room).

  • An additional opportunity to serve is installing new siding for Shawn Dow. This is a project without a hard deadline and can be planned around our volunteers' availability. My recommendation would be that the church supply the materials for this project by securing the donated materials or purchase them from the disaster relief fund.
I want to express my sincere gratitude for your willingness to serve and your patience as we find out next steps in this process. I appreciate your obedience and your faithfulness to step up. Please reach out via phone, text, or email if you have any questions.
